Sip away to satisfy that sweet tooth and soothe your soul.
There’s nothing like indulging in a fresh mug of silky smooth hot chocolate to warm up our body and soul in the middle of winter. The popular sugary beverage is perfect for drinking in Calgary when temperatures start to drop. It’s even been said that drinking hot chocolate can make you smarter!
You probably know at least one person that just can’t get enough of hot chocolate — or maybe that person is you — so it should come as no surprise that there is a festival in Calgary dedicated to the delicious drink. Calgary’s YYC Hot Chocolate Fest is a festival that celebrates — you guessed it — hot chocolate. It’s scheduled to return to Calgary for its 10th anniversary on Monday, February 1, 2021 and will run for the entire month until February 28th.
During the festival, various cafés, restaurants, and chocolatiers from across the city will compete for coveted awards such as YYC’s Best Hot Chocolate, Best Spirited Hot Chocolate, and a special Cup That Runneth Over award — and your vote will decide who wins! Furthermore, a portion of the proceeds from each hot chocolate sold ($1 for non-spirited, $2 for spirited) will go towards supporting Calgary Meals on Wheels and their mission of providing nutritious meals to Calgarians who need them!
There will be various modifications made to the festival’s usual format due to the current pandemic situation. Guests are asked to follow the restrictions and guidelines as outlined by the Alberta provincial government.
It is still unclear which vendors will participate in this year’s edition of the event, though these will surely be announced as the date draws closer. Until then, let’s just dream about all the delightful cups of hot cocoa we’re going to enjoy.
